As irritating and euphemistically ‘flattering’ as imitation, raging admiration for actors and actresses in the excellence of their craft often results in the curious phenomenon of Perez Hilton and his lovely drawings of bodily fluids on paparazzi pictures. We love Lohan so much we want to hate her guts. Or Britney. Or whomever.
With actors, the ones that are harassed aren’t necessarily the ones with the greatest talent. Megan Fox isn’t known for her amazing ability to transport audiences with the rawest human emotions– unless you count lust. But even that doesn’t have anything to do with her acting abilities.
Perhaps it is their very profession that has us wanting to break the fourth wall with the photographer’s camera. Perhaps that is why reality television is still going strong with the Jersey Shore.
For real actors, their passion for reconstructing affect, emotion, and realities is… real. There is an impact with each of their movements because of how aware they are of an existence outside of their own. Instead of hounding them and trying to catch them without make-up, the New York Times offers sincere one on one interviews with talented actors that have shaped the silverscreen in 2010. These “screen tests” include a glimpse of “actors acting”: short skits demonstrating their skill and abilities to charm, endear, or confront an audience.
