Taipei has a lot of cats. I’ve seen one up close, but I knew I wasn’t going to pet it when it looked at me with rabid, yellowed eyes. All the feral city cats look mean and lean. They shouldn’t be though, there are plenty of rats and cockroaches to go around. I saw a really fat rat today at a night market. It looked like the ones in Petco, except 4.5 times bigger/fatter.

A friend showed me this interesting audio porn {via: happy valentine’s day!}. Originally in 8 track  format, it was recorded for people who don’t have the privilege of sight, and instead may find sexual solace in the explicitly descriptive and vivid sequence of each scenario.

I listened to it (and some others). At sometimes intrigued/perhaps slightly turned on, yet the hilarity was also a ‘boner-killer’. I enjoyed how thoroughly thought out each script seemed to be in terms of sound effects and sequences, as I assume the voice actors are not ‘going through the motions’ as they perform each piece. I imagine them in faux turtlenecks colored maroons and forest greens, maybe the man has thinning hair and a thick mustache to compensate, maybe the woman homely looking with a shrunken face but a gaspy voice. They may be in a wood paneled studio/room with  a bar, because these things usually call for some kind of influence other than stoic sobriety.

Punch lines are delivered with a bravado stinking of cheese. Probably not the best metaphor for a pervy audio track– I just watched South Park all day, so the term ‘butt cheese’ is still ringing in my ears.

Porn has always made me feel peculiarly nauseating. Watching sex in movies has more capability in getting me all wound up, but the quality of porn has that bothersome tinny flatness– the unnatural tans, or the freakishly pert, stiff breasts. The casual fling of the party penis. What is most distinctively bothersome is 1. the color palette and the 2. audio.

The color palette being as visceral as it can get, the fluorescent lights don’t help. It is the color palette of dried up curry under an energy-saving light. Putridly unappealing, texture and all. I don’t really put myself out there as super romantic, but the feeling of sex as an act colored like dried up curry makes me nervous.

The audio: the “oh yes”‘s, and the “you like that?” repetitive script has me judging their faces more than other (probably more contextually significant) body parts. If you’re gonna persist in pretending, be more convincing. Creative intonations. Creative expressions. Etc. Funny how it’s always the party penis vs. girl. You don’t necessarily ever have to see the man’s face. Usually it’s probably better if you don’t.

If you want something that’s less harsh on the eyes, and without the annoying semi-automatic squeals of faux-pleasure, I suggest the much more entertaining consumption of audio porn, or classically black and white raunchy .gifs.

If you look at the comments on Youtube, you can already sense the political tension between different parties. The video itself has 121 dislikes to ~300 likes; it will be interesting to see how that plays out amongst potential audience viewers. Will people watch it because they haven’t read the ‘infamous’ book?

For those who want to be slightly prepared but haven’t read the book, Wikipedia it or look up “Objectivism” or “the virtue of selfishness”.
