I’m pretty sure I’ve already named a previous post “Ruby Tuesday”, but today is Truly Ruby Tuesday– I met a guinea pig named Ruby, and it feels as Tuesday as ever.
I guess the gossip lately has been about Taylor Swift V. Kanye. MTV awards is usually a spectacle anyway; do people realize that nominations and awards are probably determined through factors other than romantic appreciation of art? But since the obsession with the hilarity that is Kanye/MTV/Taylor Swift continues… well, you know what that means. It means we pull out the pros/cons chart, and venn diagram the shit out of this situation. But I won’t. Because it’s already too rewarding to imagine them open fist slapping each other.
Anyway, autumn is coming soon and I’m not one to buy a freshly killed fur coat, but a vintage one would suit me juuust fine. Sea of Shoes has been reviewing her own collection lately; and I must say they do look rather divine.

Even the buttons...!

Deeeeelish...!
Ah! The turn of the seasons! It has everyone in crazy cahoots; there are flu strains to avoid as it chills, there are the slowly withering days of summer to enjoy, and we teeter on an anxious ledge of autumn…
More later.

Tweet my Angst Away!!!
Has anyone read Catherine Called Birdy? It’s a funny historical fiction about this girl called Catherine (called Birdy. Naturally) who goes through the crucial teenage years as a daughter of a Lord in the medieval times. My best friend Lauren Singer and I used to crow about the medieval set- angst of Catherine– her piggish father sizing up suitors according to wealth, status, etc., and her own longings to be more than just a housewife! Anyway– she was witty, cool, intelligent– and one of her swears was “God’s Thumbs!”. Lauren used to exclaim it all the time at school (Briar Glen Elementary). It was good times. I used to love that ish.
Anyway– today’s culinary tidbits include a banana for breakfast, a cute quiche for lunch, and a tantalizing bowl of pho for dinner. No one wants to go with me (other than Sarah, who unfortunately has to serve the UW Huskies at their pre-game retreat at Hotel _____) ! Dumb !
Does anyone remember Austin Scarlett? The literally gorgeous man from Project Runway, season one?

I think he’s working for Kenneth Pool now as Creative Director of the Amsale luxury bridal wear collection. His site still features some of his fantastic designs though.
You know, he’s from Oregon.
I don’t know what that means.
And I intensely dislike how Joaquin Phoenix sings Johnny Cash songs.

KWLV?
Self-proclaimed stylist Kanye West has struck again.
Last time was the Air Yeezy– blech- looking sneaks with a strangely useless strap over the laces– but this time, Kanye debuts his Louis Vuitton– Actually, I should rephrase that– Louis Vuitton debuts a Kanye line of sneaks that give out the same, boring hip-hop vibe. Throw a few LV logo flowers and some purely ornamental buckles and straps, e voile! A Kanye-The-Louis-Vuitton-West creation is made.

Looking at my collection of blogs, I’ve noticed that the infamous Mickey Mouse motif is still quite popular in design or illustration art. Even fashion photoshoots have used the Mickey Mouse ears as a definitive prop. There’s something so broad (and at the same impossible time, concise!) about what these round black ears represent.

As we can see, Disney’s death-grip on Western culture continues.

One of my favorite fashion photographers– well, I shouldn’t say that, because I don’t really know that many, and I pretty much like all of them– is Hedi Slimane. Former creative director for Dior Homme line, his “skinny suit” frenzy got Karl Lagerfeld dressing in his signature black suit-style. He has awesome photoshoots– an amazing, online archive-collection of all these photographs that each possess a creative theme. check it out at www.hedislimane.com <fashion diary>.

I drew a picture of the dress in t his last photo; I imagined it to be a deep purple, with the cheetah spots black or dark dark blue…

So the other day, I was lurking in China Town for a dumb errand, and stopped at the Kinokunyia Bookstore for some chill-time. After tinkering around with some toys (eraser bento box! kawaii stationary! feng shui manual! and o! magnifying glasses ga-lore!) I found the magazines, where lo! and behold! the star of my guilty pleasure <reality tv shows>, Lauren Conrad, was smirking glossily on the cover of a japanese fashion magazine. Where she is branded with a sparkly pink “NO LIFE”.

Is LC hotter in America or Japan?
Sacre bleu! How on earth are decidedly fashion oriented self-made hipsters in Japan watching The Hills and understanding its ridicu-los-osity? Well, I had to investigate, and I was disappointed. Beloved Comrade Conrad only has a two page spread, and most of them are paparazzi pics:

- Ai!
In the cluttery style of People magazine! Or worse, Us magazine. Anyway– Westernization marches on! Japanese Vogue Men, for example– or perhaps it was another magazine– focused on an “AMERICA” perspective; featuring Hedi Slimane’s America/West themed photoshoot. I believe it is on his very site. Look for the bald eagles amongst the skinny prepubescent boys with twiggy arms and owl eyes.
On that note, I am going to eat my sad Fiesta Quiche. It is so unfortunate looking, I am naming it a Siesta Quiche. Part of it fell asleep in the oven. Fiesta to siesta Quiche. Ay mi.

- Hautter, cuter, couture… more stylish?
KANYE WEST STRIKES AGAIN.
This time on some Nike Air sneaks.
Dubbed “Air Yeezy”, the self-proclaimed stylist continues to integrate his name into our everyday lives. The sneakers are semi high-tops– the back lower than the front, with a funky strap decorating the front.
It really goes to show how interconnected the entertiainment industry is with luxury goods.
See: Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy’s Hennessy annual world artistry tour featuring artists like Pharell Williams. All over the globe.
And, of course, Louis Vuitton.
And how many times have we heard Snoop loving his Moet et Chandon?
So it’s very interesting to see this connection so obviously in Kanye’s new endeavors.
See what Karl Lagerfeld has to say about Kanye’s call for couture.

Paint me a picture… – by yaycake on Polyvore.com
Retail therapy is always needed in stressful times such as these. Even recession has become a trend. Dress for less, and now everyone dresses like they live in Seattle.
Get rid of your costly shopping sprees with a click of a button. Addicted to online shopping? Can’t seem to stop frantically clicking “pay now”? Memorized your credit card number and are in danger of spewing it all over the ‘Net?
Well. Worry no longer.
I use polyvore.com to create my own ensembles. Dream ensembles, you might say. Ensembles-I-can’t-Afford-but-enjoy-accessorizing-anyway. Hours and hours of shopping online, and you can create some pretty zesty outfits.
And without the unecessary punch to the moneymaker.
