Friend teacher? In this case, friend first, inspiration – sempeii second. Christine Hahn is a kick ass photographer. There are a dictionary of words I can employ, but NO GOOD: look at these and die.

Die. Of inspiration. Hope will seep out of you like sweat from a birthing cow. And you’ll like it.

Some of my favorites, my cream of her crop:

Hang Me Up To Dry

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

“You’ve wrung me out too too too many times….”

Cold War Kids has emerged on my playlists these days. We Used To Vacation is also a fave.

In NEWS, Capitol Hill Block Party is coming up and people are getting excited. Not to mention KEXP’s free summer concerts at the Mural Ampitheatre/Seattle Center with special performance by Dinosaur Jr.. I’m not familiar with their work but my friend is, and she’s super amped… other artsts include The Dodo, Japandroids, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Throw Me the Statue…. and more.

Music is clearly not their antidrug

On pop/media news: The messy divorce between Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder continues as they are granted civil leave, but Ex. Mr. Winehouse seeks the $$$ compensation for being Amy’s “muse”. How does that work, exactly? “I broke your heart so well that you wrote a heart-rendering single about it, so pay up”??? “You got even more famous as I dragged you through the sinking swamp of heroin addiction…”? The politics of wealth continue to overwhelm human compassion….! Like the man who committed suicide after misplacing an iPhone prototype…
I just had to get that out there. Watching the effects of recession on the psyche of the public is incredible. The satire, the stock market mob mindsets, even using the recession as a scapegoat… do these attitudes not fuel the fire? Although, I quite like the satire.

Recession bag: Hit it, punch it in the face, serve it cookies but take it back and eat the cookies in front of it... abuse the recession bag.

In GREAT news, however, Sarah Palin is resigning from her office as Alaskan Governor through a community picnic. While she ‘transfers’ her power to Lt. Parnell, the highlight of the event will actually be the Red Green River Regatta: “Visitors can also participate in the bathtub race and take in the Red Green River Regatta, “an entertaining river parade of watercraft made with duct tape,” according to the Fairbanks Daily News Miner.”

Unrelated, but worth a glance (or two, or three, or four), please check out photographer Christine Hahn’s work in Paris, where she is visited for part of the summer. Her portraits of Paris may feature familiar subjects (Eiffel Tower, french gardens, european statues) but her composition is flawlessly inventive.

A History of Mice

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Looking at my collection of blogs, I’ve noticed that the infamous Mickey Mouse motif is still quite popular in design or illustration art. Even fashion photoshoots have used the Mickey Mouse ears as a definitive prop. There’s something so broad (and at the same impossible time, concise!) about what these round black ears represent.

As we can see, Disney’s death-grip on Western culture continues.

A Blog is a Blog is a Blog

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Literally. I have accumulated 56+ blogs (that I theoretically read on a daily basis) in the past month. The internet is a never-ending addiction. Once you stick the wi-fi in your mental vein, you’re HOOKED–one site leads to another, and the next thing you know sites like polyvore and weheartit send you on scavenger hunts for invisible passions you never knew existed.

This blog post is a hurrah for my addiction. I claim no responsibility for my crowds of readers (feed them, feed them!) who fall into the same situation I find myself in.
