WOMEN OF COLOR

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

I just got invited to a “WOMEN OF COLOR” reception @ UW via e-mail, and it really got me thinking about how white females or even males would feel about receiving such an invitation. I mean, to be invited is obviously a hint that you’re welcome, but there’s that whole hypocritical aspect of “labeling”– not that it distinctively excludes whites or males in supporting equality *for* women of color, but how awkward would it be on a sliding scale of 1-10 for a group of white males or white females to join the party and offer their support?

A good one for my “Parties With Strangers” idea.

Think about it.
