God’s Thumbs

Has anyone read Catherine Called Birdy? It’s a funny historical fiction about this girl called Catherine (called Birdy. Naturally) who goes through the crucial teenage years as a daughter of a Lord in the medieval times. My best friend Lauren Singer and I used to crow about the medieval set- angst of Catherine– her piggish father sizing up suitors according to wealth, status, etc., and her own longings to be more than just a housewife! Anyway– she was witty, cool, intelligent– and one of her swears was “God’s Thumbs!”. Lauren used to exclaim it all the time at school (Briar Glen Elementary). It was good times. I used to love that ish.

Anyway– today’s culinary tidbits include a banana for breakfast, a cute quiche for lunch, and a tantalizing bowl of pho for dinner. No one wants to go with me (other than Sarah, who unfortunately has to serve the UW Huskies at their pre-game retreat at Hotel _____) ! Dumb !

Does anyone remember Austin Scarlett? The literally gorgeous man from Project Runway, season one?

I think he’s working for Kenneth Pool now as Creative Director of the Amsale luxury bridal wear collection. His site still features some of his fantastic designs though.

You know, he’s from Oregon.
I don’t know what that means.

And I intensely dislike how Joaquin Phoenix sings Johnny Cash songs.

  1. Andy Oh Says:

so if you’re beyond pop culture, you like to think of yourself as independent? alternative? indie? upper-class? middle-class? academic? inaccessible? elitist? or do you refuse to define yourself?

Oh, I’m not beyond pop culture– how can anyone be? And it’s not that I refuse to define myself, but how can I define myself? Epitomizing yourself with a stereotype or category is more revealing in how you would like to be seen, and not at all revealing of what you are seen as. And it differs greatly between people you know– family, friends, co-workers– most people reflect themselves with great versatility with different people.
